Glenn Comtois

"I admire artwork. Unfortunately from a distance. Many times restraining my desire to touch, attempting to connect with the artist through a physical interpretation, I clasp my hands behind my back to settle for a "visual only" offering. I believe that art, if possible, should be enjoyed by all the senses. I began to study works of art from artist such as Picasso, Van Gogh, and Matisse, realizing that many of their paintings could be “re-mastered” to three dimensional forms. Forms that one could touch, realizing the beauty in the lines, the texture of the materials, and the composition of the forms".

" I have created a form of artwork that allows for the personal enjoyment of paintings of admired artist. My art is about the composition, decomposition, emotion and interpretation of art. The works I produce are each an original multi-dimensional piece of art interpretation."

"Each artwork that I interpret is originally drawn by hand from an image of the original artwork. The hand drawn image is then drawn onto quarter inch stain grade veneer plywood. The outlined image on the plywood is then separated by using a hand held router. Each piece is then repositioned to a painted plywood background for final fitting prior to painting and finishing.

Each piece is then individually removed and painted with a thin wash of latex acrylic interior house paint until the desired color and saturation is reached. All pieces are then reassembled and glued into a final composition onto the painted background plywood. Three coats of lacquer are applied to unify the elements of the composition."

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Glenn Comtois evolved from a family of accountants, engineers, craftsmen and nomads. Not particularly fond of ledgers, balance sheets or pro-forma statements, he assumed the life of a nomad in his journey through the worlds of art, craft and engineering. Realizing that art is a very important facet of his life, Glenn introduces his artistic abilities and style with every task.

Prior to his degree in architecture from Texas A&M University, Glenn explored the world of computer research and design, particularly in the fields of data communications and software design. Realizing that a higher education would help achieve more lofty goals, Glenn pursued his degree in architecture to combine his love of art, design and technology.

Over many years, Glenn has achieved the ability to effectively combine art, architecture and design in producing an array of art to be enjoyed by all the senses.
